BEACON and MSU’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering are pleased to announce that applications are now open for appointment as the Herman Koenig Endowed Chair. The Koenig Chair is aimed at strengthening the capabilities of the new BEACON Science and Technology Center recently funded at MSU by the National Science Foundation. BEACON studies Evolution in Action, joining biologists with computer scientists and engineers in pursuit of understanding of evolutionary dynamics occurring in nature and in silico, and of applying those principles in improving the design of engineered artifacts and systems. Evolutionary design and evolutionary robotics are particular targets.
The Chair has its tenure home in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Michigan State University, but the holder of the Chair may also hold a joint appointment in another department, as appropriate.
